The Nose, Mouth & Vagina Connection - Mucosal Tissue

The Nose, Mouth & Vagina Connection - Mucosal Tissue

Your vagina, nose and mouth have more in common than you might think.  That’s right all three.  It comes down to the type of tissue your vaginal walls, mouth and nasal cavity have in common - mucosal tissue.

Mucosal tissue is a soft tissue that lines the body’s canals and organs - this encompasses the digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems. It’s job is rather important in helping protect our body against the outside world.

Mucosa is another way of saying mucous membrane.  The membranes responsible for lubricating and protecting cavities.

Did you know?   Your body has 200 times more mucosa than skin.  That means it is the single largest protective barrier.

Mucosa functions as a part of with your body’s immune system.  Its ability to protect against the outside word comes from the mucus it produces which helps clear out foreign particles.

When a foreign particle penetrates the mucosa, it produces an immune response.  The reaction your stuffy nose creates is not that different from the response your vagina may create when experiencing an infection.  That response?  Inflammation.  The body’s way to healthily respond to an infection or injury but causing less than ideal symptoms.

Tip:   When experiencing vaginal inflammation, Private Packs’ vulva pack can help lessen blood flow and helping decrease inflammation.

Menopause & Mucosal Tissue

Mucosa’s ability to lubricate is created to help prevent injury.  When perimenopause and menopause begin to affect your estrogen levels, this affects your mucosa’s to become thinner.

Thinning vaginal mucosa during menopause can result in:

  • Discomfort
  • Dyspareunia - ie painful intercourse
  • Dryness
  • Burning
  • Itching

    How Private Packs can help:

When experiencing vaginal dryness, due to your thinning mucosa, Private Packs vulva pack can be warmed and applied while using moisturizing vaginal gels or lubricants.  Private Packs’ warming feature helps enhance blood flow and creating a more malleable skin surface that’s more receptive to vaginal moisturizers.
